Foxconn celebrates Wisconsin deal with T-shirts made in Nicaragua
The grassroots group One Wisconsin Now says Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Foxconn is promoting its deal with Wisconsin Republicans for a Mount Pleasant factory with T-shirts made in Nicaragua.
One Wisconsin Now said the T-shirts and other "spirit wear" were found at a booth Foxconn sponsored on the Marquette University campus in Milwaukee. "Wisconn Valley" is a phrase credited to Gov. Scott Walker, who championed the Foxconn deal, considered the largest taxypayer-funded giveaway to a foreign corporation in U.S. history.
One Wisconsin Now executive director Scot Ross said in a statement, “Wisconsin taxpayers are on the hook for billions of dollars as part of the largest state subsidy for a foreign corporation in history and the most notable product from the deal we’ve seen so far are T-shirts, made in Nicaragua.
“There are lots of reasons this is a bad deal made by Gov. Walker and approved by the Republican controlled state legislature. For example, the deal fails to guarantee that our Wisconsin tax dollars will only go to support Wisconsin jobs."
“It seems that same failure extends to swag promoting the deal too," Ross added.
