Michelle Obama to campaign for Burke, Christie for Walker
First lady Michelle Obama will head to Milwaukee next week to campaign for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mary Burke.
The visit on Sept. 29 comes the same day that Republican New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is to be campaigning across the state in Hudson, near the Minnesota border, for Republican Gov. Scott Walker.
No details about either event have been released.
Burke's campaign announced the visit on Sept. 22 and said more information would come out later.
Also, Emily' List announced this week that it would begin airing ads statewide in early October. The national group plans to spend $1.2 million on TV spots for Burke that will focus on Walker's record on women's health. The national group, which works to elect Democratic women
As of late last week, total GOP-leaning spending on advertising was close to $7 million, outpacing the Democrats' $5.4 million on the air.
Emily's List has gotten involved in previous Wisconsin elections. It spent $3.5 million to help elect Sen. Tammy Baldwin in 2012.
The group says it is launching a voter mobilization and education project in Wisconsin to get women to the polls to vote for Burke.
Polls show the race between Walker and Burke to be nearly even, with the election just six weeks away.
