Milwaukee Ald. Tony Zielinski plans to present a proclamation before the Common Council at 9 a.m. on Tues., June 24, recognizing Matt Schreck and his husband Jose Fernando Gutierrez as the first same-sex couple to marry in Wisconsin. The two, who have been together for seven years, beat the first couple to marry in Madison by six minutes.

“This is a big honor that is rarely granted,” says Zielinski, a longtime advocate for equality. His aldermanic district includes the heavily gay neighborhood of Bay View.

The proceedings are open to the public, and Zielinski invites the public to attend and show their support.
