Reward offered in case of sexual abuse of pregnant horse in Wisconsin

The Humane Society of the United States is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for sexually abusing a pregnant horse in Waupaca County.

According to The Humane Society, a Waupaca County farmer called authorities after finding his 15-year-old pregnant horse bleeding and injured on Nov. 29. He believes the incident happened that morning or the night before.

The Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the case, which is a violation of the Wisconsin law 951.02 Mistreating animals. Waupaca County Sheriff Brad Hardel said he thinks a sort of hobbling device was used to sexually assault the horse.

Hardel is asking for anyone who may have information about the crime to contact the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office at 715-258-4466.

Melissa Tedrowe, Wisconsin state director for The HSUS said in a news release, “Animal sexual abuse is a serious issue closely linked to pedophilia and human sexual violence. I’m glad The HSUS is able to assist the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office with a reward to help identify this dangerous predator in our community.”

Hardel is asking for anyone who may have information about the crime to contact the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office at 715-258-4466.

The HSUS recently doubled its standard cruelty reward from $2,500 to $5,000 thanks to a generous donation from an HSUS board member.

Man pleads no contest in case of woman found in freezer

A Connecticut man accused of killing a woman and putting her body in a freezer in 2010 has pleaded no contest to a murder charge.

The Day of New London reports that 51-year-old Luis Otero entered the plea in New London Superior Court in exchange for a 28 1/2 year prison sentence.

Otero is accused of killing his Groton housemate, 50-year-old Madeline Brisson. An arrest warrant said Otero told a friend he “flipped out” when Brisson told him to move out of her house and implied a lesbian affair with his daughter.

“The guy promised her that he was going to kill her and put her in the freezer and she told me this after they got in an argument one time. She also told her sisters that live in Florida, ‘If I ever come up missing look in the freezer,’” Brisson’s friend Johnny Robinson told News8-WTNH.

The state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled that Brisson died of blunt traumatic injuries and asphyxia.

Otero has been held in lieu of $2 million bond since his arrest.

His sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 9.

Wis. judge calls defendant ‘gayer than a sweet-smelling jockstrap’

Before sentencing a former school bus driver to prison for molesting young boys, the judge ridiculed the defendant for claiming to be a heterosexual.

“I think you were born gayer than a sweet smelling jock strap,” Judge Philip Kirk of Waupaca told Delton Gorges, 71, before sending him to prison for seven years on counts of sexual assault of a child, repeated sexual assault of a child and two misdemeanor counts of fourth-degree sexual assault. Gorges will serve 15 years of extended supervision after his prison release.

Kirk said he believes Gorges was the victim of a homophobic society in the 1940s and 1950s.

“No one knew there was a closet to come out of in those days,” the judge said. “You know you had to be very careful, because you could have found your penis floating in the Wolf as walleye bait. It was a terrible life to have to live.”

But Kirk added, “I think that if anyone believes that in the last 10 years or 15 years all of a sudden you developed an interest in homosexuality and young boys, then I must have looked ravishing in my prom dress this year.”

A video of the judge’s remarks were posted online by Fox 11 WLUK-TV.

Although the judge’s rant sounded sympathetic toward gay people, critics told Fox 11 they were concerned that it linked homosexuality with pedophilia.

“Sometimes people don’t say the right thing, but they potentially mean well,” said Andrew DeBaker, co-chair of the gay rights group New Pride. “The thing that concerns me is the linking homosexuality, linking being gay with, in this case, child molestation.”

Gorges, who drove a school bus for 33 years, pleaded no contest to the charges.
