Despite the snow, the Milwaukee Riverkeeper Spring Cleanup will still take place.

Thousands of volunteers will descend on the Milwaukee River Basin on April 21 to help pull trash and debris from the Milwaukee, Menomonee and Kinnickinnic rivers and riverbanks as part of the 23rd annual Spring Cleaning event.

“We want people to enjoy our waterways,” stated Executive Director Jennifer Bolger Breceda in a press release. “We have a big, but attainable vision to better understand water quality issues in our rivers and help make measurable improvements to degraded conditions by 2028.”

After the event, participants will gather at Estabrook park for a free celebration with Rock the Green. The event will feature a live concert by Evan Christian on a pedal-powered stage provided by The Velo Femmes, Black Girls Do Bike and Cadence Cycling Milwaukee. Local food vendors will sell sustainable fare served on compostable serving ware and waste reclamation stations will divert waste from the landfills.

Good City Brewing will supply one free beer for Spring Cleanup volunteers. On-site eco-education will be provided from local environmental non-profits and organizations.

The Spring Cleanup event is the first community-wide effort to improve river health and water quality for 2018. More than 60 locations across the Milwaukee River Basin will benefit from the cleanup. To find a location, visit  https://www.milwaukeeriverkeeper.org/restore/spring-cleanup/.

The Spring Cleaning event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon.
