Organizers of a festival in central Wisconsin that includes a Civil War re-enactment say they'll make changes in future events after it was criticized for flying Confederate flags at the gathering.

A folk duo that performed at the LogJam Festival in Mosinee last weekend, Nickel & Rose, expressed their disappointment on their Facebook page saying the flags represent an era of black slavery.

Friends of LogJam and its sponsors apologized on Facebook if anyone was offended by the Civil War re-enactment and promised changes in the program.

A Facebook post read: "Friends of LogJam and its sponsors respect and appreciate everyone's opinion. Because we understand how Civil War re-enactment may be offensive to our guests, we have already initiated change in our program for future events. We sincerely apologize for any misrepresentation and would like to stress that we do not support these historical beliefs in any way."

The Journal Sentinel says the festival is staged to celebrate the community's logging heritage. The Civil War re-enactment was a small part of the event's historical offerings.
