Young people to dedicate 50-year time capsules to challenge governor’s climate legacy
The event is part of a series of national “Day of Dedication” events organized by the Sunrise Movement, a youth-led climate movement holding elected officials responsible while creating jobs for young people.
“Wisconsin Day of Dedication” takes place this Saturday, Nov. 18 at 2:30 p.m. at Burrows Park, 25 Burrows Rd., Madison. The event is part of a series of national “Day of Dedication” events organized by the Sunrise Movement, a youth-led climate movement holding elected officials responsible while creating jobs for young people.
A march to the Governor’s Mansion at 99 Cambridge Road, Maple Bluff, follows for the dedication ceremony of the Climate Legacy Time Capsule Project.
“In 50 years, we want our great grandchildren to know that in 2017 we were fighting for them!” the Sunrise Movement said in a prepared statement. “Not only that, we also want future generations to know who didn’t have their backs. We have given Scott Walker until Nov. 18 to speak up in favor of the Paris Climate Agreement and therefore change how history remembers him. This movement is about making sure that in 50 years we remember who chose to profit off of fossil fuels and who chose to stand for a brighter future.”
