Drop Food Not Bombs

End the Wars Committee of Peace Action Wisconsin will hold a peace vigil May 2 from noon to 6 p.m. in downtown Milwaukee.

The group says the event is to “raise awareness of the famine and wars now occurring in South Sudan, Somalia, Nigeria and Yemen. Over 1.4 million children are now at risk of death from severe and acute malnutrition. A tiny fraction of our military budget could be shifted to humanitarian relief to help end this famine.”

The group is also asking the President and Congress to stop sending military assistance to the Saudis, who it says “are deliberating bombing civilians in Yemen and interfering with food delivery.”

Activities include:

Holding signs on the steps of the Federal Courthouse, 517 E. Wisconsin Ave., from noon to 2 p.m.

Dropping off letters at the offices of Senators Baldwin and Johnson and Congresswoman Moore, asking for the movement of money from war to humanitarian aid and to cut off military assistance to the Saudis, consistent with Senate Joint Resolution 40, from 2 p.m. to 5p.m.

Holding signs and reading latest news reports on the ongoing famines and conflicts, the need for non-violent solutions, increased humanitarian aid and sustainable economic development assistance, on the corner of Water and Wisconsin from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

End the Wars Committee of Peace Action Wisconsin is a coalition of peace activists, including representatives of Peace Action WI, the United Nations Association of Greater Milwaukee, Vets for Peace, Casa Maria, Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, the National Lawyers Guild, Iraq Veterans Against the War and Friends Committee on National Legislation.
