Bragging rights, a trophy and the health of southeastern Wisconsin woodlands are on the line during the Sixth Annual Garlic Mustard Pull-A-Thon

The Sixth Annual Garlic Mustard Pull-A-Thon is calling for participants across southeastern Wisconsin to protect their local woodlands by pulling the invasive plant garlic mustard.

The Southeastern Wisconsin Invasive Species Consortium, Inc. is putting on the competition for the sixth year in a row. Participants must form or join a team, collecting pledges to support their organization as well as the regional effort to fight invasive species. Sponsors can submit pledges through the SEWISC's website. The Pull-a-Thon is a great opportunity to raise funds for an organization of your own while helping the regional effort to maintain natural areas. 

The event aims to collectively pull 10,000 pounds of garlic mustard. The invasive species is taking over woodlands, crowding out native wildflowers and preventing tree seedlings from growing. The SEWISC also encourages participants to pull and bag Dame’s rocket, another invasive species of the mustard family. Pulling this plant will give each team extra points.

Half of all proceeds go to participating organizations that raise funds, and half go to SEWISC. All funds will be used for invasive species education, prevention and control in southeastern Wisconsin. All pledge contributions are tax-deductible. 

All teams have until June 30 to pull as much garlic mustard as they can. The team that collects the most pledges and pulls the most garlic mustard will receive a traveling trophy and bragging rights.
