student protests

High school students protest in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

With the surge of student protest following the mass school shooting in Parkland, Florida, the American Civil Liberties Union will host a Know Your Rights online video training to educate students about their First Amendment rights.

The live online training for students — as well as parents, educators and others — will cover the range of ways students can speak out using their constitutional rights, including whether schools can discipline students for walkouts and other forms of political expression.

ACLU attorneys will conduct the online video training with visuals aids on YouTube Live at 7 p.m. Wisconsin time March 1.

To register for the training, go online here.

An ACLU primer on students’ First Amendment rights is here.

And, for those in Wisconsin, you can connect with your state organization — ACLU of Wisconsin — here.
