As part of our work to stop the wildlife extinction crisis, we raise awareness around the need for every individual to have the resources, access to contraception and education to plan their reproductive futures. The Center for Biological Diversity recently interviewed Maxine Trump (no relation), the Director of the new documentary To Kid or Not to Kid, about her film which follows her personal family planning story. Our interview talks about the child-free lifestyle and, along with the movie, creates an opportunity for conversations among couples. We discuss the different rationales people have for being child-free such as anxiety around financially supporting a child, non-interest in the birthing experience and concern for the environment. We also talk about the challenges and doubts people face when making contraceptive decisions that are right for them. The Center recommends watching the movie on Amazon Prime or iTunes and explore Maxine’s PBS Spin-Off Series called Should We Kid or Not? Stay tuned for a panel discussion on the topic.
