The Milwaukee Chamber Theatre presents Doubt, A Parable, a Pulitzer — and Tony — winning play directed by MCT producing artistic director C. Michael Wright. Follow Sister Aloysius Beauvier on a personal crusade with devastating consequences as she sets out to unveil the secrets of a Catholic parish set in 1964 in the Bronx.

Doubt, A Parable was written by John Patrick Shanley and originally ran over a decade ago, winning the Tony award in 2005. It was that same year that Wright first saw the play on Broadway.

“I find Shanley’s approach to especially difficult subject matter to be courageous, multi-layered and totally riveting,” Wright stated in a press release.

The story follows Sister Aloysius, a principal of the parish school who suspects that the parish priest Father Flynn has sinned, and that the possible victim is the school’s first black student. Sister Aloysius sets out with a young teacher armed with only their moral certainty in an attempt to expose the truth.

MCT’s production of Doubt, A Parable will feature a cast of four Wisconsin based actors. Two members of the American Players Theatre’s Core Company, Colleen Madden and Marcus Truschinski, will play Sister Aloysius and Father Flynn respectively. April Paul will play the young teacher Sister James and Malkia Stampley will play Mrs. Muller, mother of the young boy Sister Aloysius believes is being victimized.

Doubt, A Parable marks the end of the MCT’s 43rd season, “The Mysteries of Life.” The play will be performed at the Broadway Theatre Center’s Cabot Theatre located at 158 N. Broadway in the Historic Third Ward from April 12 to April 29. Tickets can be purchased from noon to 6 p.m. at the Broadway Center Theatre Box Office or at any time at milwaukeechambertheatre.com.
