Way back in the day — we’re talking 1898 here — a group of Milwaukeeans threw together a celebration for the city’s 50tth anniversary and called it the Milwaukee Carnival. Last year, more than a century later, local entertainment planning group Swarmm swiped the concept and reincarnated it as a one-day event, complete with carnival games, bar olympics, live art, local vendors and performers of all stripes. The carnival is back this year for a second installment, featuring such local artists as Dead Man’s Carnival and Klassik, as well as a headlining performance by the hip-hop band Far East Movement.

At Horny Goat Brew Pub, 2011 S. First St. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at milwaukeecarnival.com.

3 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23
