Beethoven’s ‘Eroica’
Beethoven’s Third Symphony, Eroica, takes its name from the Italian for “heroic,” and it certainly sounds worthy of the title, mixing victorious fanfare with a famous, reverential funereal movement. Guest conductor Carlos Kalmar will lead the MSO in the work, considered a turning point for Beethoven and the symphonic form itself. Also on the program: Vaughan Williams’s Sixth Symphony, a haunting work long-considered the British composer’s response to the World Wars.
11:15 a.m. June 10 at 8 p.m. June 11 at the Marcus Center, Milwaukee. $17 to $107. mso.org.
