Starkville first city in Mississippi to pass pro-LGBT resolution

Starkville has become the first city in Mississippi to pass a resolution making it clear that the city is intolerant of discrimination against anyone and in any form.

Chad Griffin, president of the Human Rights Campaign, in a recent statement thanked the city's Board of Alderman for passing an equality resolution and becoming the first municipality in Mississippi to "recognize the dignity of its LGBT residents."Griffin says the city's action sends a message to its residents that all people — regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity — are worthy of respect and equality.

Griffin says Mayor Parker Wiseman and the Starkville City Council are "setting an inspiring example" for their counterparts in surrounding cities and towns.
