Rubio, Bush, Christie and Rand nearly tied in 2016 presidential poll

A monthly look at the 2016 presidential race shows a statistical tie for four potential candidates in the GOP field.

Public Policy Polling’s survey shows Marco Rubio at 16 percent, Jeb Bush and Chris Christie at 15 percent and Rand Paul at 14 percent.

PPP said in the six months of surveying voters on the issue, only Paul has shown real momentum, with support going from 7 percent to 14 percent.

Rubio’s support has shifted from 18 percent to 16 percent, Bush’s from 12 percent to 15 percent and Christie’s from 14 percent to 15 percent.

Support for other potential candidates was 9 percent for Paul Ryan, 7 percent for Ted Cruz, 5 percent for Rick Santorum, 3 percent for Bobby Jindal and 1 percent for Susana Martinez.

On the Democratic side, Hillary Rodham Clinton continues to lead the field with support at 63 percent. The next closet potential candidate is Joe Biden at 13 percent.

The polling put support at 4 percent for Andrew Cuomo, 3 percent for Mark Warner and Elizabeth Warren, 2 percent for Martin O’Malley and 1 percent for Kirsten Gillibrand, Deval Patrick and Brian Schweitzer.

Clinton’s number is up 2 points since PPP began polling on the issue.

She has at least 58 percent support with liberals, moderates, men, women, whites, African Americans, Hispanics, young voters and seniors.

In hypothetical Republican vs. Democrat matchups, only Christie polls competitively with Clinton. He would be at 44 percent to Clinton’s 47 percent.

Against Rubio or Paul, Clinton has a 10-point lead.
