Romney keeps to anti-gay marriage stance

Republican Mitt Romney said this week that he continues to oppose gay marriage, a position that polls show clearly hurt his campaign for the White House in 2012.

A number of Republicans at the highest levels have said that the GOP must look at how to attract new voters and some have said that the party must accept that gay marriage is a reality. Many of Romney's campaign advisers recently signed on to a friend-of-the-court brief urging the Supreme Court to overturn California's anti-gay marriage amendment, Proposition 8.

But Romney, according to the Joe.My.God blog, told Fox News on Sunday, "I believe that marriage is a relationship between a man and a women, and that's because I believe the ideal setting for raising a child is where there's a mother and a father in the home. Other people have differing views and I respect that, whether that's in my party or in the Democratic Party. But these are very personal matters. My hope is that when we discuss things of this nature, we show respect for people who have differing views."

The former candidate has made a few public appearances and statements in the past week.

He also told Fox that he truly believed he was going to win the White House but said his campaign was not effective at taking my message primarily to minority voters. The campaign also underestimated the appeal of Obamacare, Romney said.

Ann Romney also joined in the interview. She said, "I'm happy to blame the media."
