“Good Morning America” weatherman announces marriage to longtime boyfriend

WiG

Sam Champion, the weather anchor for “Good Morning America,” has announced his plan to marry longtime boyfriend Rubem Robierb later this year.

The weatherman and the Brazilian-born photographer plan to celebrate their nuptials on New Year’s Eve in Miami, Champion told the New York Times. Champion’s wedding announcement was included in a story about MSNBC anchor Thomas Roberts’ wedding to Patrick Abner on Sept. 29 in New York.

“We’ll do it (in New York) officially, and then have a party in Miami,” Robierb told the Times.

Champion, 51, originally tweeted his marital intentions to his fans on Oct. 5. Apparently, it was the first time publicly acknowledged his sexual orientation.

He followed the original Tweet with a second one announcing, “I’ve never been happier to share a bit of personal news.”

GLAAD president Herndon Graddick was among the first to congratulate Champion.

“Sam has been a good friend and longtime supporter of GLAAD, and I wish him and Rubem the absolute best,” Graddick said in a statement.

In addition to Roberts and Abners’ wedding announcement, CNN anchors Don Lemon and Anderson Cooper recently came out publicly.
