“Craigslist” congressman and deadbeat dad among those awarded perfect scores for ‘family values’

Ahead of the November elections, the Family Research Council’s Citizenlink has released its scorecard for the 112th Congress. The scorecard tallies the percentage of votes cast by individual members of Congress that concurred with the right-wing hate group’s position.

Those positions included support for bills to: repeal health care reform, which extends care to millions who are currently uninsured; to defund Planned Parenthood, which provides cancer screening and other critical heath services to women who could not otherwise afford it; ban a woman’s right to terminate a pregnancy; and prevent equal treatment for LGBT military personnel.

Among those who scored a 100-percent rating for voting in line with FRC’s “family values” was disgraced New York Congressman Christopher Lee. Married and a father, Lee resigned after it was revealed that he trolled Craigslist with shirtless pictures of himself while hitting on women and cross-dressing men. After resigning office, a Democrat picked up Lee’s seat in his Republican-leaning district during a special election.

Also earning a perfect record was Rep. Joe Walsh, R-Ill., who was declared a deadbeat dad by a judge for refusing to pay more than $100,000 in child support to his ex-wife over the course of a decade. He also lost his automobile insurance for non-payment.

FRC also awarded Todd Akin, R-Mo., a flawless score. Akin made headlines for declaring that not all rapes are “legitimate rapes” and for claiming that a woman’s body shuts down automatically to prevent pregnancy when she’s not enjoying her rape.

Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., also scored perfect. He was one of only two members of the House to oppose a bill protecting young girls from sex slavery.

None of Wisconsin’s representatives achieved 100-percent, although Reps. Paul Ryan, Jim Sensenbrenner, Sean Duffy and Reid Ribble scored 90.
