Elton John and his husband David Furnish unsheathed their claws last night about Madonna’s Golden Globe appearance. The Material Girl scored a statue for Best Song, beating out John and Mary J. Blige.
Furnish tweeted: “Madonna. Best song???? F**k off!!!…Madonna winning Best Original Song truly shows how these awards have nothing to do with merit. Her acceptance speech was embarrassing in it’s narcissism. And her criticism of Gaga shows how desperate she really is.”
Earlier, on the red carpet, John had given an interview to Carson Daly in which he said, “Madonna hasn’t got a f**king chance.”
Daly responded, “Those are fighting words.”
“They’re accurate words,” John replied.
But Madonna’s song “Masterpiece,” which she co-wrote for her movie “W.E.,” beat out John’s “Hello Hello” from “Gnomeo and Juliet” and Mary J. Blige’s “The Living Proof” from “The Help.”
Madonna also raised eyebrows with her sarcastic response to host Ricky Gervais, who joked that she remains like a virgin in introducing her.
“If I’m still just like a virgin, Ricky, then why don’t you come over here and do something about it,” she said. “I haven’t kissed a girl in a few years. On TV.”
