Google reportedly paid over $800,000 for a commercial that appeared during “Glee” last night promoting Dan Savage’s “It Gets Better” campaign.
The moving 90-second spot, featuring footage from the teen suicide-prevention campaign, was for Google’s browser Chrome. The spot spliced together a variety of clips from famous personalities such as Lady Gaga and Adam Lambert with ordinary folks. There’s even an appearance by the character Woody from the animated “Toy Story” films.
The commercial has generated an avalanche of positive feedback on the Internet.
The “It Gets Better” project, begun by Dan Savage last year following a spate of suicides by gay teens who’d been bullied, has attracted participation from scores of prominent LGBT people and allies, including President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
