Hathaway to play Colfer’s lesbian aunt on ‘Glee’

Anne Hathaway will play the lesbian aunt of the gay character played by openly gay actor Chris Colfer on “Glee,” according to the show’s producers. Colfer recently picked up a Golden Globe for best supporting actor for his role in the Fox TV series.

“(Hathaway’s) already created (her role),” series creator Ryan Murphy told people.com. “She wants to play the lesbian aunt of Chris Colfer. Because everyone needs a lesbian aunt.”

Hathaway, 28, isn’t the only star seeking a guest spot on the popular show. Murphy said several others also pitched him about appearances at the Golden Globe Awards.

“They always do,” he told People. “I can’t even think of who. But it’s so sweet. I think they support the show because it’s about the arts.”

“Glee” got a lot of support at the awards. Not only did Colfer become a first-time winner, but the show was named best musical or comedy series for the second year in a row and out lesbian Jane Lynch picked up an award for best supporting actress for playing Sue Sylvester.
