Wisconsin Family Action challenges the Domestic Partner Registry… again
Wisconsin Radio Network reported yesterday that Wisconsin Family Action is attempting to repeal the state’s Domestic Partner Registry. Julaine Appling, executive director of WFA, claims there are grounds for repealing the registry, “The same-sex only, statewide domestic partnership registry mimics marriage.”
The constitutional amendment passed by Wisconsin voters reads, in part, “A legal status identical or substantially similar to that of marriage for unmarried individuals shall not be valid or recognized in this state.” Wisconsin Radio Network said Appling is asserting that the registry “basically mimics marriage.”
The Domestic Partner Registry went into effect a little more than a year ago. The state’s Supreme Court dismissed a request from WFA to declare the registry unconstitutional in November of 2009, according to Wisconsin Radio Network.
