Country star leads Chicago’s Pride Parade

CHICAGO (AP) — Country music singer Chely Wright joined thousands of revelers on the streets of Chicago’s North Side for the city’s 41st annual Pride Parade.

The Chicago Blackhawks’ Stanley Cup, along with defenseman Brent Sopel, and former Chicago Cubs player Ernie Banks also attended the Sunday celebration. Sopel rode on the Chicago Gay Hockey Association’s float.

Last month, Wright came out publicly as a lesbian and was grand marshal of the parade. Organizers said there were 250 registered entries for the parade. They included public officials, Chicago sports teams, schools, military groups, churches and businesses.

In years past the event has drawn up to 400,000 people.

Wright recently released her memoir, “Like Me,” and her new album, “Lifted Off the Ground.”
