ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — A once empty building in downtown Albuquerque is set to reopen as the city’s largest gay nightclub.
The Effex Nightclub at 4th Street and Central Avenues opens Thursday night.
Co-owner Kris McNeil told KOB-TV they hope the club helps revitalize downtown while giving the gay and lesbian community a place to feel comfortable.
McNeil added the gay community contributes financial support to downtown businesses including stores and grocery stores — something McNeil said that downtown needs to grow and flourish.
City Council President Ken Sanchez said new businesses and the latest gross receipts tax revenue, which showed a slight increase in March, is a good financial sign overall.
