Wal-Mart says it’s ending its effort to locate a big box superstore in downtown Green Bay.
In a statement, Wal-Mart said that despite revisions to its plan, “some city officials created road blocks at every turn.”
The Green Bay City Council on a slim margin voted earlier this summer to reject Wal-Mart’s rezoning request. That followed nearly a year of debate between Wal-Mart supporters and opponents.
Wal-Mart regional general manager Mitch Cox says some city leaders decided to pass on his company’s offer and gamble on “what might someday come down the road.”
Press-Gazette Media reported that Mayor Jim Schmitt has indicated a local developer is interested in the downtown site.
