The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force honored U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore at a May 11 fundraiser in Washington.

Moore, who has represented Wisconsin’s Fourth Congressional District since 2005, was cited by NGLTF as “a leading ally for LGBT fairness and a force for social justice.”

Moore helped lead the push to pass the 2009 expansion of the federal hate crimes law to include sexual orientation, gender and disability status as protected categories. In 2006, she fought against amending the Wisconsin Constitution to ban same-sex marriage, challenging African-American leaders and others to reject the measure.
