“Do I want to be ‘the gay anchor’?” CNN’s Don Lemon asked himself, according to a May 16 interview with NPR. The 45-year-old anchor realized that coming out could brand him and hurt ratings, but he nonetheless acknowledged that he’s gay in advance of the upcoming release of his memoir “Transparent.”
Lemon’s revelation closely followed that of Phoenix Suns president Rick Welts, who came out in an interview with The New York Times on May 15.
