The Lost Whale

It didn’t take long for the old Boone & Crockett space located at 2151 S. Kinnickinnic Ave. to be occupied by a new resident.

The Lost Whale is a Midwestern hospitality-focused bar that will utilize local folklore in creating its atmosphere. Two service industry veterans, Tripper Duval (former mixologist for Badger Liquor) and Daniel Beres (former Beverage Director for Stand Eat Drink Hospitality Group) are opening the bar.

“Wisconsin is filled with hard-working people who want to go out to have a good time,” stated Duval in a press release. “We value their time and we’ll be focused on speed behind the bar, a minimized wait time for drinks and the cocktails will be fresh, innovative and delicious.”

The name of the bar is derived from an April Fool’s prank in which an article claimed that a whale had been spotted in Lake Michigan. Thousands took to Facebook to discuss the plausibility of such a whale, and a Facebook group dedicated to spotting it has over 11,000 followers.

“No whale has been in that lake, ever,” stated Beres in a press release. “We thought the name was a perfect mix of whimsy, humor and hope.”

The bar is elevating its relationship with local water further than its Lake Michigan inspired name and location on the Kinnickinnic River. The Lost Whale will participate in community efforts and charities that respect and maintain Milwaukee’s waterways. The bar will practice sustainability through biodegradable straws, cross-utilizing produce, composting waste and recycling.

The Lost Whale is set to open mid-June. A rotating lineup of food trucks will be featured seasonally. For updates, follow The Lost Whale on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
