The Texas State Republican Party has adopted a platform that calls for prosecuting those who perform marriage ceremonies for gay couples.

The platform seeks to label such acts as a felony.

The platform also:

  • Calls on Congress to bar federal courts from dealing with family law cases.
  • Opposes the recognition and granting of benefits to domestic partners.
  • Opposes the legalization of private, consensual same-sex sex.
  • Opposes employment protections based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
  • States “homosexuality must not be presented as an acceptable ‘alternative’ lifestyle in our public education and policy, nor should ‘family’ be redefined to include homosexual couples.”

The platform also calls for the eviction of the United Nations operations from the United States, bans on stem cell research and abortions, the elimination of the U.S. Department of Education and limiting a student’s bilingual education to three years.

Responding, the Human Rights Campaign called on the Republican National Committee Chair Michael Steele to repudiate the language in the platform.
