An Arkansas school board member told CNN that he’ll resign following a national outcry over an anti-gay posting he made on Facebook.
Midland School Board member Clint McCance used the terms “queer” and “fag” repeatedly in the posting, in which he promised to disown his own children if they’re gay and stated that he enjoys “the fact that (gay people) give each other AIDS and die.”
McCance’s posting was in response to a Facebook campaign asking supporters to wear purple to show solidarity after several gay and lesbian youths killed themselves, reportedly because of bullying.
“Seriously they want me to wear purple because five queers killed themselves?” McCance wrote. “The only way im wearin it for them is if they all commit suicide. I cant believe the people of this world have gotten this stupid. We are honoring the fact that they sinned and killed thereselves because of their sin.”
On Oct. 28, McCance told CNN’s Anderson Cooper that he regrets his statements and will resign his position.
“I’m sorry I’ve hurt people with my comments,” McCance, said.
“I strongly condemn the statements that appeared on Mr. Clint McCance’s Facebook page,” Tom Kimbrell, Arkansas commissioner of education, said in a statement.
