A district judge in Santa Fe, N.M., has ruled a marriage license issued by a Sandoval County clerk to two women was valid, and therefore subject to divorce.

Judge Sarah Singleton made her decision in a hearing over a June 2009 divorce petition brought by Angela Carrejo against JaNelle Haught.

Singleton did not rule whether gay marriage is legal in New Mexico, but looked only at the issue of whether the same-sex marriage licenses were invalid.

Haught and Carrejo had no comment on the decision.
