A two-term Minnesota state senator facing a Republican primary challenger confirmed reports that he went on a date with an adult film star.
Sen. Paul Koering, R-Fort Ripley, who revealed to his constituents in 2005 that he is gay, told the Brainerd Dispatch that he dined with Brandon Wilde at a Brainerd restaurant. Several Web sites reported on the date.
Wilde is described as a gay porn star in his Twitter profile and he posted messages about the dinner on Twitter.
“I went to dinner with this guy,” Koering told the newspaper. “His mom is my constituent. I would just say I don’t see where the story is. If I have to start asking someone for a resume when I go out to dinner with him, or lunch, it’s pretty sad.”
Koering’s re-election bid is unfolding in a socially conservative north-central Minnesota district that sent him back to the Minnesota Senate in 2006. Koering battled for the Republican endorsement before defeating primary and general election opponents.
