A group that advocates for LGBT servicemembers is planning to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell.”

The end of the gay ban came last September.

Servicemembers Legal Defense Network will hold Celebrating Our Heroes on Sept. 18 in New York City.

An announcement said the event will mark the first anniversary of repeal and feature Adm. Mike Mullen, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who was instrumental in building support in Congress and at the Pentagon for ending the policy.

The event will take place at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum on Pier 86.
