U.S. Rep. Barney Frank, D- Mass., married longtime partner James Ready on July 7.
Frank is the first sitting congressman to enter a same-sex marriage.
Reuters reported that Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick officiated at ceremony. U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi and U.S. Sen. John Kerry attended.
The Boston Globe characterized the ceremony at the Marriott hotel in Newton, Mass., as low-key and lasting about 5 minutes, with the grooms wearing matching black tuxedoes.
During the exchange of vows, the governor “asked the couple whether they would love each other 'under the Democrats or the Republicans, whether the slopes are powdery or icy, whether the book reviews are good or bad, for better or for worse, on MSNBC or on Fox.”
Frank, 72, and Ready, 42, met a political fundraiser in 2005.
The vows also included a commitment to love one another “in Congress and through retirement.” Frank is not seeking re-election in November.
