Justice David Wiggins.

Iowa voters on Nov. 6 retained Justice David Wiggins on the state supreme court.

Wiggins survived a Christian right campaign to remove him from the bench. Bob Vander Plaats, head of the Iowans For Freedom committee to oust Wiggins, conceded defeat but told the Des Moines Register that the margin was “not a great validation for Justice Wiggins.”

Wiggins was the fourth Iowa Supreme Court justice to stand for a retention vote since seven justices unanimously ruled to legalize same-sex marriage in 2009. The other three were removed from office.
