Hank Williams Jr., at a concert on Sept. 2, mocked “queer guitar pickers” and said he hates Barack Obama, who "loves gays."
Williams, a country-western star on a U.S. tour, caught a couple news cycles earlier this year when he compared the president to Adolf Hitler. That comment prompted ESPN to pull a Williams’ song as its NFL football anthem.
Performing on Sept. 2 at the Stockyards Music Festival in Fort Worth, Williams mocked “queer guitar pickers” while singing “All My Rowdy Friends Have Settled Down,” the Dallas Morning News reported.
Later, the newspaper reported, Williams said, “We’ve got a muslim for a president who hates cowboys, hates cowgirls, hates fishing, hates farming, loves gays, and we hate him!”
Obama has the best record on LGBT equality of any president. Earlier this year, he announced his support for marriage equality.
The proposed party platform endorses marriage equality, and, when she speaks to LGBT delegates on Sept. 5 at a luncheon, first lady Michelle Obama is expected to promote marriage equality.
Luncheon presenters include the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund, Human Rights Campaign, National Stonewall Democrats and local LGBT political groups.
About 600 people, most of them delegates, have reservations for the event, where they also will hear from Victory Fund president and CEO Chuck Wolfe, HRC resident Chad Griffin, U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin, New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
