Newt Gingrich has a large lead in Minnesota, according to the latest numbers from Public Policy Polling.
The latest poll showed Gingrich with 36 percent of the vote, Mitt Romney with 18 percent, Rick Santorum with 17 percent and Ron Paul with 13 percent.
However, PPP says, “Gingrich shouldn't get too comfortable though” because the race is fluid, with 15 percent of voters undecided and 63 percent saying they could change their minds before the caucus in two weeks.
This means the results in the Florida primary on Jan. 31 probably will have a significant result in Minnesota, where home state candidate Michele Bachmann gave up her presidential bid after a poor showing in Iowa. Bachmann is now preparing to run for another term in Congress.
PPP also found that Gingrich’s favorability rating increased by 40 points in Minnesota since May, that his supporters are more committed, that he will gain significantly if Santorum drops out before the candidates return north and that he leads most key groups in the state.
Gingrich, according to the poll, has 44 percent of the Tea Party vote, 44 percent of the male vote, 28 percent of the female vote and 26 percent of the independent vote. He’s also winning every age group except the youth vote, where he’s tied with Ron Paul.
The Minnesota Caucuses are Feb. 7.
