Ikenna Beney Amaechi as Whitney Houston.

During Piers Morgan’s July 6 interview with singer LL Cool J about Whitney Houston’s life, producers aired some generic footage of the late singer. Or so they thought.

It turns out the footage was actually of a celebrity drag queen named Ikenna Beney Amaechi, TMZ reported. Amaechi is a 5’9” female impersonator from Berlin who’s played Houston for 21 years.

TMZ discovered that the CNN footage was from the 2008 Reel Awards Show in Las Vegas, a celebrity impersonators event.

“I was just sitting at home and at first I didn’t realize it, but then it hit me like BOOM! It wasn’t Whitney … It was me!” Amaechi told TMZ. “I feel very honored that I was mistaken for the real Whitney Houston on CNN … is there EVEN a bigger compliment for a tribute artist?!”

According to a playbill bio of Amaechi, he was educated in Nigeria and began performing Houston in 1989 after years of studying her moves, looks and voice in 1989. He now travels the globe performing as his idol.

Houston, who publicly battled drug and alcohol addiction for many years, died in February from related causes.
