“Modern Family,” the top-rated ABC sitcom that features a gay couple raising a daughter, is Ann Romney’s favorite TV show, she said during a recent interview with “The Insider.”
But “Modern Family” is no fan of the Romneys. The show’s co-creator Steve Levitan tweeted that Ann Romney can guest-star on the show when gay marriage is legalized.
Romney’s husband, GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney, has pledged to enact a constitutional ban on legal recognition of same-sex relationships, if he’s elected. He’s also vowed to reinstate “don’t ask, don’t tell,” the military’s former ban on openly LGBT service personnel.
In fact, Romney and running mate Paul Ryan have pledged fealty to the positions of the extremist Christian right on all issues related to LGBT equality.
In his tweet, Levitan said he’s “thrilled” that Ann Romney watches the show.
“We’ll offer her the role of officiant at Mitch & Cam’s wedding. As soon as it’s legal,” he added, referring to characters Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) – the show’s gay couple.
President Barack Obama has said in the past that “Modern Family” is a current hit at the White House. “For the girls and me, “Modern Family,” that’s our favorite show,” he told People magazine last December.
