Oscar-nominated actor Mark Ruffalo, a native of Kenosha, has recorded robocalls on behalf of Rob Zerban, Paul Ryan’s congressional opponent. Zerban, a local businessman and Democrat, is the most serious challenger Ryan has ever faced for re-election in Wisconsin’s First Congressional District.
“Hi, this is Mark Ruffalo. You may know me as The Hulk in the Avengers, but what you might not know is that Kenosha is my hometown. I'm calling to ask you to vote for Rob Zerban for Congress on Tuesday,” Ruffalo’s recorded calls begin. They continue:
“Rob is running against Paul Ryan because Paul Ryan's policies hurt families like the one I grew up in. Ryan would end Medicare, privatize social security, and balance the budget on the backs of seniors and working class folks. Just so billionaires and Big Oil companies can enjoy huge tax breaks and bonuses.
“Paul Ryan wants to squeeze every last drop from the middle class to benefit the few. And that's not going to bring us back jobs, and it's certainly not going to help us when folks are looking for work.
“But Rob Zerban will. He is a successful small business owner, and on the issues that matter to us -- protecting clean air and water, reforming Wall Street's recklessness, protecting the safety nets, and creating opportunities for working and middle class folks -- Rob Zerban is on our side.
“Please cast your vote for Rob Zerban this Tuesday. Thanks for listening. This is a message paid for by Rob Zerban for Congress.”
Ruffalo is best known for his role as the Marvel Comics character Bruce Banner, aka The Hulk, in this summer’s blockbuster “The Avengers.” He was nominated for best supporting actor for his role in “The Kids Are All Right (2010).”
