The state Capitol in Madison.

A Wisconsin Assembly committee will vote May 31 on resolutions for convening a Constitutional Convention for the purpose of adding a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

This is from the League of Women Voters of Wisconsin:

We respect people’s concerns about the federal debt, but this is the wrong way to tackle that problem and a particularly dangerous path to take.

Such a convention would:

1) imperil all citizens’ rights currently protected in the Constitution;

2) weaken our ability to respond to unforeseen emergencies.

Contact your state senator and assembly representative and tell them a Constitutional Convention to pass a balanced budget amendment is a reckless proposal and it should be rejected.

Also, the Legislature's budget committee will vote May 31 on funding for Wisconsin State Parks and other Department of Natural Resources items.

Reach out to members of the Joint Finance Committee and your own state senator and representative and urge them to support Option 3 of the Legislative Fiscal Bureau Paper #467 to restore $2.7 million in General Purpose Revenue to our state parks.
