Michael Sam inks 4-year, $2.65M contract with Rams
The St. Louis Rams have signed Michael Sam — the NFL’s first openly gay player — to a four-year, $2.65 million contract.
The team has signed all 11 of its 2014 draft class.
Sam publicly came out as gay in February.
He was drafted in May.
In a tweet announcing the contract, Sam said, “Grateful, humbled, and motivated after officially signing with all my Rams rookie brothers. Let’s do this! #RamUp”
The Rams’ season opens on Aug. 8 against the New Orleans Saints. They play the Packers on Aug. 16.
The team roster shows Michael Sam’s uniform number is 96 and his position is defensive end.
